I’ve started a poll accessible via the sidebar, asking how long you spend playing a game before you just give up on it. It’s an interesting subject, being everyone is different. The voting will be up until Sunday, and I want to get as many people as possible to vote in it.
If you would like, you can express your reasons for voting the way you did via the comments in this post; it would help me shed some extra light on the results.
Until I lose interest, and for that to happen it’s usually because:
- No new gfx, sounds or features
- room after room full of enemies
- being forced to find a secret to finish the level
- mods where I continuously die or run out of ammo
And even though they’re practically the staple of the wolf3d map:
- teleporter puzzles, mazes or dejavu levels
They just drive me crazy
So basically, when I find the mod more outright frustrating than challenging is when I lose interest. Although there have been some mods I played all the way through and enjoyed that had some of those, but I’d say each one of those drastically reduces the amount of time and enthusiasm I’m willing to invest while playing a mod unless it has some significant redeeming qualities somewhere in there.
My vote: “Until I lose interest”. In all honesty though, none of the available votes were really accurate for me; I might play a mod a while, but the fact is, I tend to start a lot of things I never finish. While I am still interested, my interest rarely changes the outcome.
1 whole level. usually because I would stop playing some earlier than this so I early on set this as the minimum. It’s very rare that I play a new mod all the way through these days as most of them just don’t interest me. I guess I’m at a place where I need to play something different to the same thing I’ve played hundreds of times before to keep my interest. I’m like ‘theJosh’ where I get annoyed very quickly of mods that are done badly or minor things that are simple to fix but the creator has been to lazy to fox them.
